After I read the Martha Rules a couple of months ago, I was still hungry for more mind food, and picked up the book
Today We Are Rich. Honestly, the book was originally purchased for my husband to read, because he is also somewhat self employed... and I believe that feeding your mind the right kind of information keeps you strong and energetic when it comes to achieving in life.
That said, he was in the middle of reading something else, and I was looking for something new to read, so I picked up the book (expecting it to be sort of a guy business book) and quickly changed my mind. Most of the books I read are written by women, but I'm starting to be more open minded about it now. Don't ask me why, I suppose I just expected I'd connect with the writing style of women more than men, but you get what I mean, so let's get on with this...
Today We Are Rich :: Harnessing the Power of Total Confidence by, Tim Sanders was a heartfelt book that reminded me that we are all very real people, with feelings, and desires and goals, just like everyone else. And while many of his lessons in the book were about having confidence in yourself, and then spreading that willingness to teach and share and grow with others... What I really got out of this book, was what it means, to live with Purpose.
I can't tell you how enlightened I am feeling right now. I've mentioned the difference between passion and purpose recently, but I wanted to go back to it, because this book is where I found that light bulb moment when it clicked, and things started becoming more clear to me.
A quick sum up of the difference, is that passion is when you do something because it gives you joy, but purpose is when you do something because it helps you accomplish what you are working for in life. We all know that we must work to live, but living to work is something different.
Living to Work... is finding purpose in yourself to provide for your family, or for your community, or for even a greater cause of helping those in need. Purpose is what gives you that sense of accomplishment in life, that personal inner reward, that you should keep doing good deeds, and selfless acts for others, because in return, you'll feel more whole, and more alive, and therefore, fueling your fire to Live and Succeed.
This can bring less stress to your life, this can bring better health, but it also can bring the kind of wealth you may want from life too. Learning to live with Purpose, and always Giving, means you'll get back just what you need, and just what you're working for, because you've set those thoughts into action by living with purpose.
The title of the book, Today We Are Rich, is more of a story of a man going back to childhood and being taken in by his grandmother, who at the time had very little to give... but she gave anyways. She knew the value of a warm bed and a hot meal, but she also knew the value of sharing when she could, and teaching that wisdom to others (in this case, the author, her grandson). Today we are rich, means learning how to see that you might already have what you need, but by also always sharing with others, and setting yourself in motion for achieving what you want from life, you can find both, success, and inner reward, which in return keeps your passion alive.
I hope I'm not talking in circles here, but I do believe that passion and purpose go hand in hand. Now, I feel like I understand more how to practice both, purposefully...
So I've written 4 reasons I live for purpose, to share with you what this book meant to me, and to give you an idea of what it means, to live with purpose...
{ To contribute financially to my family and home }
- help with bills
- fixing up the house
- planning more vacations
{ To bring joy to my customers }
- and help everyday events feel more like celebrations
- a luxurious bar of soap, a simple decoration, vintage, holidays, everydays!
{ To share what I've learned with my peers }
- I have always had a hard time finding my place in giving back to the community that has become my village. You know who you are, and you mean so much to me. I feel by sharing in books, I have finally found a way to give back, good mind food that I've received, and want to share...
{ To give to my community }
- Some people give publicly, but I am too shy for that. Running marathons or managing events is bigger than my shoes can fill... but there is never anything wrong with giving anonymously, and I plan to do more of this.
- Starting with coats for kids, and toys for tots. It has always touched my heart to give when children are in need, and I want to start contributing more to local causes like these in my community.
So now you've got a little taste of what it means to live with passion and with purpose.
I hope you'll connect with this book like I did, and find your own inner Confidence. Today We Are Rich was a beautiful book, and one I'd definitely recommend if you are seeking good mind food, and direction to live passionately, as well as purposefully.
