Who's more afraid?

Today I ran a few errands, and beautiful day as it was... I had the window down in my car. On my way out of the parking lot, some sort of bug flew into my window, took a crash landing on my arm and fell into the little cup holder in the center divider between me and the passenger seat.

Now, mind you... I was still in the parking lot when this happened, but I was approaching the street. And, I should tell you too... that I'm ridiculously afraid of bees. Although, sweet little bumble bee... I felt a little bad for it, considering it was laying upside down in my little cup holder buzzing and trying to get back up.

I managed to drive all the way home, hoping this thing wouldn't start buzzing around my head and make me drive like a crazy person... so I opened my sun roof and the other side window, trying to give it plenty of ways to escape.

Finally arriving home, the poor little thing was still fussing around, but didn't seem interested in flying away. So I parked my car, left the windows open and went inside. Good samaritan am I. I don't like bees, but I know that bumble bees are little helpers, and I wanted to let the little guy fly back into the world...

Hours later, I go outside to roll up my windows and to of course see if the guy had flown away, and he hadn't. He died, laying upside down in the cup holder where he had originally landed. Poor thing. So I ask Kevin to get him out of my car, because even though he's dead, I still get the creeps touching bees.

He picks him up, only to find that it's not a sweet, innocent little bumble bee. No... not at all. It was actually the ugliest, hairiest, most plump fly I've ever seen! I can sleep at peace tonight, knowing there is now, one less fly in the world.

Not the ending I expected! How funny! Aren't the bugs & flies in Oregon huge? My very first day here I saw a crane fly for the first time ever and I thought it was a mosquito on steroids! And the slugs here are as big as hot dogs! Our cats love those huge flies though - much easier to see and catch while flying around the house!
